Sustainability is one of the foremost challenges facing humanity in the 21st century. Sustainability has risen to the top of CEO agendas around the world. Green business is emerging as a core strategy for organizations of all sizes. Shareholders and investors are looking for evidence that organizations are working to conserve and preserve resources while managing for profitability.

Meeting sustainable development goals will require action on a number of fronts, including harnessing and maximizing the potential of technological innovation. The sustainable technology innovation wave is only just building. We created the science and engineering technological revolution on which all our wellbeing is based. Scientific and engineering solutions have proven different ideas and methods for implementing sustainable technologies. Sustainable development must take account of the effects of technology on the environment and society. The Forum seeks to raise and give answers to the question of how new technologies can help increase ecological, economic and social sustainability.

However, not only technological innovation is booming and shifting towards sustainable solutions. For example, many of the World Economic Forum’s top 10 most promising technologies have a clear environmental and social focus. All organizations, from businesses to governments and civic organizations, seek to generate value with finite resources. Economic sustainability can be achieved in the long term by realigning organizational strategies to become ecologically and socially sustainable. Sustainability agenda for the world is encouraging the development of industrial ecology and the circular economy (from cradle to cradle), which aims to close production and consumption cycles, thus placing the materials necessary for these processes within a closed loop, in order to minimize the extraction of natural nonrenewable resources. The Circular economy offers an opportunity to reinvent our economy, making it more sustainable and competitive.

Papers reflecting Forum topics and their relevance to diverse sustainability issues are welcome.

Paper Structure

Please obtain the MS Word Template from the conference organizer.

Do not make any changes to the structure of the template as this can lead to production errors.

Papers should be prepared in the following order:

(a) Introduction: to explain the background work, the practical applications and the nature and purpose of the paper;

(b) Body: to contain the primary message, with clear lines of thought and validation of the techniques described;

(c) Conclusion;

(d) Acknowledgements (when appropriate);

(e) References;

(f) Appendices (when appropriate).

Section headings: should be left justified, with the first letter capitalised and numbered consecutively, starting with the Introduction. Sub-section headings should be in capital and lower-case italic letters, numbered 1.1, 1.2, etc, and left justified, with second and subsequent lines indented.

Formatting your document

Papers should be prepared in single column format (192 mm × 262 mm). Do not number pages on the front, as page numbers will be added separately for the preprints and the Proceedings. Leave a line clear between paragraphs. All the required style templates are provided in the file “MS Word Template” with the appropriate name supplied.

1. Title page

The first page should include:

(a) Conference Title

Click on the existing text and enter the name of the congress.

(b) Title

Click on the existing text and enter the title of the paper using sentence case.

(c) Each author’s name and affiliation, including present address

• Authors’ names: Remember to include the correct superscript linking to the appropriate affiliation details.

• Affiliations: Remember to include the correct superscript linking to the appropriate author details.

(d) Abstract

Insert an abstract of 50–100 words, giving a brief account of the most relevant aspects of the paper.

(e) Keywords

Insert 5–10 keywords.

Please follow the template style for all the above features.

2. Tables

All tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals. Headings should be placed above tables, left justified. Leave one line space between the heading and the table. Only horizontal lines should be used within a table, to distinguish the column headings from the body of the table, and immediately above and below the table. Tables must be embedded into the text and not supplied separately.

3. Illustrations

All figures should be numbered with Arabic numerals (1, 2, …). All photographs, schemas, graphs and diagrams are to be referred to as figures.

Line drawings should be good quality scans or true electronic output. Low-quality scans are not acceptable. Figures must be embedded into the text and not supplied separately.

Lettering and symbols should be clearly defined either in the caption or in a legend provided as part of the figure. Figures should be placed at the top or bottom of a page wherever possible, as close as possible to the first reference to them in the paper.

The figure number and caption should be typed below the illustration in 9pt and left justified.

Artwork has no text along the side of it in the main body of the text. However, if two images fit next to each other, these may be placed next to each other to save space.

4. Equations

Equations and formulae should be typed in Mathtype, and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in parentheses on the right hand side of the page (if referred to explicitly in the text). They should also be separated from the surrounding text by one space.

5. References

In the text the number of the reference should be given in square brackets. For references with more than two authors, text citations should be shortened to the first name followed by et al., e.g. Jones [1] discovered that…; Recent results from Brown and Carter [2] and Green et al. [3] indicate that (…).

Only essential references, which are directly referred to in the text, should be included in the reference list.

References must be listed in numerical order at the end of the paper. Do not begin them on a new page unless this is absolutely necessary. They should be prepared according to the sequential numeric system making sure that all material mentioned is generally available to the reader.

Journal references should include: author’s surname and initials; initials and surnames of remaining authors; article title (where provided); abbreviated journal title (in italics), year of publication, volume number and page numbers.

References to books should include: author’s surname and initials; surnames and initials of remaining authors; the book title (in italics); the place of publication and the name of the publisher; and year of publication. The footnotes should be typed single spaced, and in smaller type size (8pt), at the foot of the page in which they are mentioned, and separated from the main text by a short line extending at the foot of the column. The .Els-footnote. style is available in the “MS Word Template” for the text of the footnote.

Please do not change the margins of the template as this can result in the footnote falling outside printing range.

7. General guidelines for the preparation of your text

Avoid hyphenation at the end of a line. Symbols denoting vectors and matrices should be indicated in bold type. Scalar variable names should normally be expressed using italics. Weights and measures should be expressed in SI units. All non-standard abbreviations or symbols must be defined when first mentioned, or a glossary provided.

Practical Information

About Panevėžys

Panevėžys Faculty of Technology and Business  is a campus of Kaunas University of Technology and is situated in Panevėžys city.

Panevėžys, the capital of Aukštaitija (Highland) Ethnographic Region, has been the fifth largest city in Lithuania. Panevėžys lies on the banks of the river Nevėžis, the sixth longest river in Lithuania. The river gave its name to the city itself. Senvagė (the Old River Bed), it is considered the symbol of Panevėžys and is a famous place for leisure time and festivals.

Panevėžys is situated in the middle of Lithuania; it is halfway between two Baltic capitals – Vilnius and Riga. The city lies in a good geographical position which plays a major role in communication with other Lithuanian cities and the city of Kaliningrad. The Via Baltica highway runs through the city and connects it to many Scandinavian and West European countries.

Places to visit

The best way of getting to know Panevėžys is to visit it. You are most welcome to a green, compact, cozy Lithuanian city.

Between the period of the I and the II World Wars Panevėžys was famous for the mills.

A granite monument of Alexander, the Great Duke of Lithuania and the King of Poland overlooks in the settings of panorama of the Old River. On its palm, it gently swings St. Peter and Paul’s Church – the descendant of the oldest Christian shrine of the city.

The most favorite place for rest and various festivals is the Old River Bed – it is like a visiting card of the city, which could prove the fact that for many years Panevėžys has been a cozy and green city. Various sculptures make the Old River Bed livelier.

The building of J. Miltinis Drama Theatre is just several steps ahead from the Old River Bed. Juozas Miltinis, the legendary stage director and his students – the actors has provided Panevėžys with the special aura and brought honor that is felt even nowadays.

The seeds of the theatre, which were put in Panevėžys several decades ago, have brought the plants of different arts. A unique Puppet Wagon Theatre visiting the remotest Lithuanian towns and villages in summer is established in the city. The Director Antanas Markuckis has been awarded a prestigious prize of a well-known Danish fairy teller H. Ch. Andersen. This prize is also known as the little Nobel prize. The visitor of the city will be curious to see the unique theatre where fantastic puppets live, the café is functioning in a small wagon of narrow gauge railway and the collection of handprints of noble guests is exhibited.

At hand, there is the Art Gallery, which has accumulated treasures of ceramic works. Some of the works are presented in the exhibition. Panevėžys is often called the Mecca of ceramic artists. 129 artists from 30 countries have created in 15 symposia.

If one is tired of arts, it is worthwhile to sit in one of the coziest cafes in Laisves square, the heart of the city. Fountains, passers-by can be watched. You can sit and listen to music in the so-called singing square for 24 hours. If you are lucky, you can listen to live music as Brass Orchestra Garsas rather frequently organizes various projects in the open air.
